the grind

March 4th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized

back to the hospital this morning for me… got back last night to meet my new roommate Stephanie, a medical student from germany… she’s very nice and easy going. there is also a large group of Adventists, mainly early high schoolers, all of the boys are staying in the house with us… very noisy, very different from how quiet it was with just erin and I. rolling with the changes…. It was really great to see some of my favorite la loma luz people (letty the pharmacist, steve the xray tech, wilhelm and greg the maintenance men) when I got back to the hospital this am… only have a couple more days in the clinic… 5 weeks has gone fast. incredibly fast. soon to be a memory…. the times are crazy and they are a-changin.

My dear, the month has flown at home too, can’t wait to have you back. Did you choose to stay an extra week to work at clinic? Thought you’d be in caye the whole week? Hmm…I can’t wait to see you. I feel that we can just pick up where we left off, since the chronicle of your trip has been so greatly documented. It’ll be fun to go back and read after you get back. Love you!

Hi I just returned from a medical mission trip to Belize. Our group (medical group from centura health adventist hospitals in Colorado) did some surgeries at La loma Luz. Wilhelm took us all over the Cayo in his yellow schoolbus. We visited villages and had a clown and puppet show to teach health and hygiene behaviors to kids. We then held a medical clinic with three practitioners and nurses. We mostly treated rashes and stomache problems. Parasites meds and vitamins were given out as well as toothbrushes, soaps, flipflops and some toys etc.. I loved my trip there and we stayed at the Cahal Pech village. I didnt get sick thank god. I must say Wilhelm was the best. He was our protector and guide and many things. His wife and kids were great fun too. Fun to talk to you. Puppy is still there but someone stole some of her puppies. There was one left when we moved on. There is a little fund to take care of her. Anyway are you going back? I would like to go back. We have another group going in November. Im sure they will meet Wilhelm too. Thanks Laurie
